Belgians want answers why their $50M in emergency anti-drone tech yielded not a single take-down, origin tracking, or even one high res photo of a "drone" responsible for shutting down military bases and public airports
The European "mystery drone" flap of late 2025 started in Belgium before spreading to other parts of Western Europe. I stopped keeping count after 30 or so highly sensitive military bases and public airports were shut down between September - December 2025. Belgian authorities were so rattled by unexplained "drones" appearing over their most sensitive installations they rushed an approval to acquire $50M worth of state of the art anti-drone tech. Yet, all these months later, they have nothing to show for this investment. Not a single take down of a drone, no successful tracking of their origin/return points, and not even a single high res photo has been produced. Now a corruption investigation is underway. Naturally Belgians want answers why $50M was spent on anti-drone tech to combat the "Russian asymmetric warfare!" that journalists and politicians breathlessly claimed were the cause of the drones. But just like in New Jersey the year before... or Langley AFB, or Wright-Patterson, or Camp Pendleton, or the Arizona AF training ranges and on and on and on... the anomalous pattern remains the same: These drones are never shot down They're never tracked They "go dark" anytime we're just about to get a clear picture of one. Zero trace of forensic evidence The "drone" and "asymmetric warfare" narrative is falling apart. Belgium is finding out that they simply called them "drones" because... well, familiarity is comforting, no? submitted by /u/FlaSnatch [link] [comments]
