From panic to indifference: how a century of bad politics and bad journalism killed our trust in the news and in the government
From panic to indifference: how a century of bad politics and bad journalism killed our trust in the news and in the government
The anthropologically and sociologically interesting thing that emerges from the latest releases of UFO material is that we have gone from the famous Orson Welles radio hoax — War of the Worlds, 1938 — which everyone believed and which became a worldwide sensation, to these current releases and official declarations which almost everyone is skeptical of and, more importantly, about which almost nobody could care less. I think most people would have their doubts and consider scam, government conspiracy and AI even if an alien invasion were broadcast live and in high definition on CNN, until they empirically observe actual alien spaceship above their heads. What is (not) happening in this weeks tells us a great deal about public trust in the media and in the authority of information — and of those who provide it — and how both have evolved over the course of nearly a century. submitted by /u/gimboarretino [link] [comments]
