I Might Understand the “Security Implications”
A lot of data released to the public has been filtered due to the potential leak of the means and methods (“MM”) by which the US collects intelligence data. This hasn’t sat well with me simply because MM can be extrapolated from the technology approved for civilians. Also, it’s not particularly challenging for foreign nations to “war game” plausible forecasts of our abilities. Whatever this phenomenon is, it is beyond actionable explanation. Put differently, intelligence concerns aren’t about *how* we’ve collected the data but understanding what the data means. This implies that Earth’s major players are probably as blind as every other player. Therefore, the best play is to keep our observations secret in the event that we observe something so significant that it becomes the key to a breakthrough. submitted by /u/Particular_Peacock [link] [comments]
