Is this the origin of prayer?
I'm not following the UFO phenomenon since long time, let's say one year and a half, but everyday I'm more and more convinced that religion is just a distortion of encounters with aliens. So. Every weekend I spend my days looking intensely at videos narrating of encounters, and one thing that pops out 99% of the time is: they can communicate telepathically with us. I lost count of the experiences I heard of in which the people meeting them say "I can hear them speaking in my mind". And so the question: is prayer a distortion of this along time? I think it could make sense. After all, why a God, any God, would need us to think about him in a magic way in order to listen to us (without answer, out of psychiatric ward)? I used to be religious and I always found prayer... strange. But it does make sense in the light of what all those people meeting aliens say about telepathy. Maybe joint hands was a way to say non verbally "I'm reading your mind" or "please read my mind", as for what I know joint hands are common in prayers from many if not all religions.
