New York comes in fourth with 11,000 sightings. But since these states have the largest populations, the high report numbers really aren’t that surprising. What I found interesting is that Washington ranks fifth in sightings, matching New York’s numbers even though it has less than half the population. Oregon, meanwhile, at 27th in population, is in the top 15 for sightings, which is quite remarkable. Also, Alaska reports more sightings than Rhode Island, Delaware, and both Dakotas.
