Pentagon files on UFOs include report about metal fragments found in West Rindge, NH
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Newly released Pentagon files on UFOs include a report about metal fragments found in West Rindge, New Hampshire, that raised security concerns. The files, released last week, include a 1947 memo addressed to the director of the FBI describing cast-iron particles discovered in West Rindge that appeared to have been exposed to intense heat. According to the memo, scientific analysis, including a review by a team at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ruled out the possibility that the particles came from a plane or train. The memo also states the pieces seemed to be part of a hollow cylinder similar to ones used in missile research in New Mexico. Stamped "internal security" in several places, the memo says MIT treated the investigation as a secret matter and worked to collect as many fragments as possible. "The Bureau's interest is not known to the scientists at MIT," the memo states. "There has been no speculation that a guided missile originating in a foreign land landed in New Hampshire." The memo, which also includes the handwritten notation "flying discs," says the FBI's Boston office planned to destroy the samples by August 1947 unless instructed otherwise. A stamp on the memo reads, "Copies Destroyed 270 Nov 18 1964." submitted by /u/silv3rbull8 [link] [comments]
