Project Blue Book USAF Blue Book case #6507 Central Indiana UFO/UAP Orb Sightings (Oct 8-13:1959): Bunker Hill Air Force/Grissom Air Force (AF) Bases
This is just a follow-up thoughts that were activated while writing my previous post My personal UFO sighting and disclosure. I have been somewhat obsessed with the UFO lore of Bunker Hill AF base since I was a child and before, the base took up a lot of the ecosystem of Kokomo Ind where I grew up, almost like a college town atmosphere. It would have consumed Kokomo more if it had not been for all the factory jobs available. I came across one particular incident of a metallic orb which sounds very similar to what I saw (see rendering) that “witching hour” when I was a teenager. USAF Blue Book case #6507 — Bunker Hill AFB , Indiana (September 13, 1959 Kokomo appears to be mentioned because the first civilian report appears to have come from an unidentified civilian observer in Kokomo, Indiana, and then the sighting was later observed from multiple points at Bunker Hill AFB. So Kokomo may not have been mentioned because it was the “main event location,” but because it was likely the origin point of the initial report chain. The sequence looks something like this: Civilian observer in Kokomo reports something Page 1 begins: “Phone call from an unidentified civilian observer in Kokomo, Indiana…” That makes Kokomo the first named civilian location. Report enters police/radio communication channels The handwritten page you showed suggests the information moved through Indiana State Police / Red Key / Dayton / Wright-Patterson communication channels. That may explain why the Air Force file cared about the chain of custody: who called whom, and whether there was a TWX/message. Bunker Hill AFB personnel then observe it Page 2 says the object was sighted from various points on BHAFB. Base personnel used binoculars. An F-89 from Bunker Hill and F-102s from Lockbourne became involved. ATIC/Wright-Patterson gets involved That makes sense because Wright-Patterson’s Air Technical Intelligence Center handled UFO reporting and evaluation. Kokomo was close enough to Bunker Hill/Grissom to be operationally relevant. If a civilian in Kokomo reported an unusual object in the sky near dawn, and Bunker Hill AFB personnel could also see something on a similar bearing, then Kokomo becomes part of the official sighting geometry. https://preview.redd.it/dzs6az14aq4h1.png?width=719&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb76e92967cd8efcf0108be5df15ff86abc486ca Project BLUE BOOK - Unidentified Flying Objects | National Archives Search - Fold3))),keywords:Kokomo)) https://preview.redd.it/30oburedaq4h1.png?width=701&format=png&auto=webp&s=79ec978917559e05a0191fb7d2f29bb61c7dc3ae AF IN : 10889 (10 Oct 59) PAGE FIVE RUEDNJ 76 (1) 1000’ BASED WITH TOP AT 2500’ (2) 1400’ BASED WITH TOP AT 8000’ I. TWO F-102 AIRCRAFT FROM LOCKBOURNE AFB, OHIO AND ONE F-89 FROM BHAFB WERE LAUNCHED. ONE F-102 AND ONE F-89 OBSERVED THE OBJECT FROM 40,000 FEET AND REPORTED THAT THEY BELIEVED IT TO BE A STAR. J. N/A K. INVESTIGATING OFFICER: OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE OFFICER, 305TH BOMBARDMENT WING (M) (SAC), LT HARRY A. KERSEY JR. BASED ON AN ANALYSIS OF THE INFORMATION COLLECTED IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE UFO WAS PROBABLY A STAR OR THE PLANET VENUS. THE OBSERVERS WHO SIGHTED THE LIGHT SOURCE ARE ALL IN GENERAL AGREEMENT THAT IT LOOKED LIKE A STAR. EXPERIENCED WEATHER MEN WHO WERE OBSERVERS ARE SURE THAT IT WAS A STAR WHICH THEY SIGHTED BEFORE ONLY MAGNIFIED BY AN ATMOSPHERIC CONDITION. THE PILOTS WHO OBSERVED THE OBJECT FROM 40,000 FEET CONCURRED THAT THEY BELIEVED IT TO BE A STAR. COMPUTATIONS SHOW THAT VENUS WAS ON A BEARING OF 102 DEGREES AT AN ANGLE OF 23 DEGREES AND 20 MINUTES AT 08/1040Z WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY THE SAME LOCATION AS THAT FOUND IN PARAGRAPH B2 ON WHICH THE OBSERVERS AGREE. THE BASE ISD DID NOT RECEIVE ANY CALLS ON THIS SIGHTING. BT 09/2229Z OCT RUEDNJ NOTE : SEC II IS AF IN 10851 (10 Oct 59) Page 5 of 5 submitted by /u/SquareChildhood6147 [link] [comments]
