Strange meteor/UFO I saw as a kid
Time : June 1st, 2007 at 2200 Location: Harrisonburg, VA, USA Edit: changed time and location format to fit requirements. This was roughly 2007, summer. One night, the neighborhood kids and I were all out playing in the culdesac. Typical summer night. We wandered over to a friend's house across the street and started talking to his father. While we were discussing something with him, I happened to look up at the night sky. It was a clear summer night. Stars out and what not. Moments later I saw this large meteor-like object shooting across the sky nearly directly overhead roughly west to east. It moved across and disappeared behind the house. What was so strange to me was that there was this large thick plume of dark green smoke (thing like olive drab or forest green) that trailed behind it illuminated by the ambient city light, but there was no visible fire or burning coming off of the object. I couldn't really make out the object itself. Just a vague large essence followed by smoke. I remember saying "Did anyone else see that?" The father said no and I described it. He said I must be lying or seeing things. None of the other kids saw it either. Now I've seen plenty of meteors over the course of my life but none ever like this. It didn't look anything like a meteor other than the fact it was moving across the sky. It moved slowly enough to see for more than roughly 2 seconds and it seemed quite low. Absolutely no illumination or burning from the object. No noise. Just this strange smoke that disappeared quick enough for nobody else to look up and see a trail by the time I mentioned what I had just seen. I've tried to Google meteor instances like this before with this type and color of smoke but have never found any answers. Has anyone seen anything like this before or know what I saw? Would love an answer because it really truly did look out of this world. Very strange and UFO-like. All answers welcome. I'm sure I probably just saw some strange, rare meteor, but the lack of answers or videos that could reproduce what I saw has always stuck with me all these years. submitted by /u/CruisinCamden [link] [comments]
