The 834021 Documents - New Evidence Confirms Stanton Friedman's Research of Controversial MJ-12 Papers
In the mid-1990s, UFO researcher Stanton Friedman was beginning to get concerned. He had been investigating a series of new documents which purported to confirm the existence of MJ-12 - a top secret government organisation rumoured to carry out UFO crash retrievals and the cover-up of the truth. Friedman was one of a handful of UFOlogists who believed that MJ-12 was indeed real. These new documents, however, were worrying him. "In some ways, however, they were too perfect," he wrote in his 1996 book TOP SECRET/MAJIC, "Once again, we would have to do much quiet and careful research before going public with the documents. It was a good thing we did." Friedman collected funds together from the UFO community to do a proper investigation. He interviewed experts via phone, flew out to archives in Virginia, and sent copies of the documents to specialists for comment. As his investigation continued, his source of these documents - a man named Timothy Cooper - gave him even more. "Several of these documents also looked too good to be true," wrote Friedman. He sent one of them to an archivist he had been talking to - a Dr. Bland from the Marshall Foundation, whose work keeping the records of the alleged author George Catlett Marshall, Jr. allowed him to immediately identify that the letter was a retyped and reworded version of an authentic Marshall letter. The added elements were the parts that referenced MJ-12. "With this unambiguous fraud as background, I became convinced that several other items were retyped and slightly changed versions of old memos or letters," wrote Friedman. This write-up aims to validate Friedman's assessment, focusing on a batch of Timothy Cooper's MJ-12 documents that are linked together by the number 834021. Part 1: The Documents There are six 834021 documents, with three forming a supposed "Annual Report" produced by MJ-12 on its activities, a CIA report on Communist propaganda, a letter written by Rear Admiral Hillenkoetter, and a letter written by Lieutenant General Twining. For clarity, these will be called the "Annual Report", the "CIA Report", the "Hillenkoetter Letter" and the "Twining Letter" throughout. These documents can be accessed via the following links. We will examine each one as we go, I merely include the links here for ease of access if you are returning to this for your own research. Part 2: The Connection After beginning his investigations into these documents, Friedman was beginning to suspect them of being altered versions of original authentics. "...the mode of operation of a hoaxer," Friedman said in a 2000 MUFON Symposium speech, "Find a real document, retype it with a few strategic changes, and scan or Xerox any handwritten material on to it, and Xerox and perhaps age it. Typically the emulation looks and sounds great." He began seeking out the original documents to compare to the MJ-12 emulations. He found a few - one of which related to two of the 834021 documents. It was a letter from General Albert Coady Wedemeyer to the President. I have reproduced it below. https://preview.redd.it/7omeaklawhzg1.png?width=627&format=png&auto=webp&s=528c2399428d12376e55762feeb4e6b71b04e7fb Friedman noticed that the wording in this letter was extremely similar to the wording on the "Twining Letter". For clarity, I will compare the authentic Wedemeyer letter to the MJ-12 "Twining Letter" by putting altered language from the "Twining Letter" in [square brackets]. The remaining text is unaltered from the Wedemeyer letter MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT: In [accordance] with your directive to me of 9 July 1947, the attached "[REPORT ON FLYING SAUCERS]" is respectfully submitted. In [consonance] with your instructions, advisers from State, Treasury, War and Navy Departments [assisted] me on a two month [exploratory] mission [concerning the purpose of other-world visitation]. The principle (sic, misspelling not in authentic version) [investigators and starnge (sic)] areas [...] were visited. Successful efforts were made to reach [scientists of all levels], as measured by [their work in classified defence projects]. Conferences were held with [national security officials and leaders of private industry]. Approximately 1,200 memoranda [and intelligence reports] were considered. [...] The report presents against a global background my estimates of the [situation], current and projected, in both [the U.S., and allied countries], and [recommendations deemed] to be sound courses of action for [formulating plans and policies in light of recent developments.] The report also induces pertinent data in appendices which may be of interest [for forwarding to] appropriate government departments and agencies. Respectfully yours, [C. H. Twining] [Lieutenant General, U.S. Army] Of this "Twining Letter", Friedman wrote; "Definitely another emulation." He continued, "Unfortunately, for those who want to accept these seemingly legitimate fascinating documents as genuine, these same words from Wedemeyer items show up on page 2 of the long report supposedly reviewing all that was learned… Repeating a fraudulent document's words in another one does not make them genuine." He was referring to the MJ-12 "Annual Report", which directly quotes from the fraudulent "Twining Letter" in its conclusions, contained in the body. On the table of contents of the "Annual Report", in the bottom right hand corner, was the 834021 number. This same number appears in the bottom right hand corner of the two other 834021 documents - the "CIA Report" and the "Hillenkoetter Letter". From Friedman's 2000 MUFON speech: "There are three different reasons for saying the emulation explanation is correct for many of the new MJ-12 documents provided by Tim Cooper: The text of the original and the emulation are much too similar for different circumstances. The handwritten portions are identical. There are factual misrepresentations or mistakes in the emulations." Friedman gave his exposé on the "Annual Report" and the "Twining Letter" in 2000. In 2026, someone would locate the original, authentic 834021 file. Part 3: The Typewriter Before we get there, Friedman wasn't the only UFOlogist to investigate the validity of the 834021 documents and suggest they were emulations. Timothy Good, author of Above Top Secret, noted that the "Annual Report" matched two curious elements of a known typewriter - a slightly elevated "8" and slightly elevated capitals "G" and "N". Whose typewriter did these anomalies match? Timothy Cooper - the conduit of the documents. https://preview.redd.it/4x9riklawhzg1.png?width=813&format=png&auto=webp&s=d0f0cf4dc9c30615ab748096f53107b8524e5317 Part 4: The Number I'm afraid this section gets a little technical. Please bear with me. If you're not of a mind to pore over technical details of documents, please feel free to skip down to the conclusions. (Readers of my prior two posts on MJ-12 may find some of this information repetitious. I again entreat you to bear with me - much of it is entirely new!) 834021 is a CIA control number - used for accurate recordkeeping of documents. These numbers are kept organised using a Record Sheet - a sheet kept at the front of a set of documents that describe what the document is, when it dates to and which departments have accessed it. Below is an example of the Record Sheet of a document kept under the CIA Control Number 022235. https://preview.redd.it/e1h6wolawhzg1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d764f565ac480530e854f816b343163cfba167b As you can see, the Record Sheet notes the control number and also specific information about the document itself, including when it was added to the CIA Registry, from where, how many pages it has, and what attachments exist, if any. It then has a section for tracking which offices have accessed it, and a section to complete if the material is ever destroyed, removed, or downgraded in classification. In addition to the Record Sheet, control numbers are also sometimes recorded on the documents themselves. Below you can see the first page of the 022235 document described by the above Record Sheet, with a stamp on the document that records the 022235 number highlighted. https://preview.redd.it/hyd6xnlawhzg1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=29b380479b1d68c5929e86a5a85a1f96c85c2cb9 A UFO researcher by the name of Jed Davis recently performed a search on the CIA's online FOIA portal - where they archive material that has been declassified, approved for public release and distributed. In that archive, he located the original 834021. The 345 released pages of the 834021 file relate to various topics, mostly centered around Operation Paperclip - the U.S. program to bring over German scientists after the end of the Second World War. It uses a very distinctive date stamp in the bottom right to identify the control number, one that the emulated "Annual Report" attempted to copy using a different style of stamp. https://preview.redd.it/nzk0wrlawhzg1.jpg?width=482&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6318ab0d032df78df215a9df15f2e93465e482fd Other examples of related Operation Paperclip content demonstrate that these CIA control numbers are not shared between documents of related content. The 023335 document shown above and one numbered 931222 shown below also contain Paperclip material, however use different control numbers with internally consistent identification methods (i.e. the stamps do not change). https://preview.redd.it/3byx0wlawhzg1.png?width=655&format=png&auto=webp&s=e9be0ffeb0757aca7f8c1266498ae456720b7cb6 In addition to the emulated 834021 control number, the "Annual Report" also emulates two other control numbers from the authentic page 239 of the 834021 file, using handwriting instead of official stamps. https://preview.redd.it/2xr6uzlawhzg1.png?width=761&format=png&auto=webp&s=ad2071768264ed278199af8bf73f3653b94b2b85 The authentic 834021 file also contains no mention of UFOs. An "Approved for Release" stamp on the authentic documents indicate that they were released in late 1985, seven years prior to the emergence of the Tim Cooper MJ-12 documents, making them accessible to a forger. The "Annual Report" contains other control numbers too - these being ER-1-2735, A-7621.1 and CIA/SI 28-55. These three other control numbers emulate those found on other authentic documents. ER-1-2735 and A-7621.1 appear to originate from the following authentic document; https://preview.redd.it/ggdm04nawhzg1.png?width=734&format=png&auto=webp&s=7b1f81dab372d12ceb39ba2fd9f17764dec2758f While this document is stamped with an indication that a review conducted in 1981 marked it as classified and set its next review to 2011, we know it was actually declassified sometime before that as it was approved for release via the FOIA archive in 2003. The two surrounding documents in the same "file" were declassified during the same 1981 review. The CIA's FOIA archive does not list a case number for the FOIA request - suggesting it may have been approved for publication digitally during a review of previously released material. The "Annual Report" uses the ER-1-2735 and A-1762.1 numbers in direct conflict with their use in this document, similarly to the Page 239 control numbers discussed above. Again, signs confirming Friedman's hypothesis of emulation. The other control number on the "Annual Report" - CIA/SI 28-55 - is mentioned in the following genuine document; https://preview.redd.it/a02fwtmawhzg1.png?width=652&format=png&auto=webp&s=3444a95e59a220793a3d98c12aac96937c39daf5 The document is a note written on a CIA Archives cover page - one which indicates the file is specifically part of the Official Historical Record. These documents are subject to automatic declassification review, which for the 1957 letter that forms the body of the file, would have occurred prior to 1992. It is also possible the CIA/SI 28-55 report was uncovered by the emulator from another source. Some of these emulated control numbers also appear on the "Hillenkoetter Letter" - ER-1-2735 and 834021. However, the "Hillenkoetter Letter" doesn't feature the simulated 834021 stamp that the "Annual Report" has - instead, it appears to be genuine. https://preview.redd.it/0al6wwmawhzg1.jpg?width=482&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa08f1da12b5b9e94b163deae62b5adcbfd9f180 This, combined with the fact the only MJ-12 reference on this document is in the lower left corner in the file distribution section, where evidence of a Xeroxed replacement of the legitimate file distribution list would be difficult to uncover, indicates the emulator took a real page from 834021 and added a spurious MJ-12 reference. What appears to be a genuine 834021 stamp also appears on the "CIA Report". It has been known for some time that the "CIA Report" was a wholly authentic document - not an emulation as best as could be told. It was declassified and released in the early 2000s, and contains information on Communist propaganda which is wholly unrelated to UFOs. Part 5: Conclusions In this post, we have seen how; The 834021 Documents are connected via shared numbers and information They bear hallmarks of emulation Stanton Friedman was able to uncover original authentics they had been altered from Other researchers matched the typewriter to a potential forger New research has given us more original authentics Analysis of these new authentics shows more evidence for emulation In conclusion, it seems Friedman was right. The 834021 Documents which he exposed as emulations of authentic documents in 2000 are now able to be directly compared to the authentic 834021 file, showing they bear many hallmarks of altered, counterfeit documents. submitted by /u/tsuyurikun [link] [comments]
