On April 17th, 1897—129 years ago today—a bizarre story emerged from the small town of Aurora, Texas. Residents reported that a cigar-shaped UFO drifted over the town before crashing into a windmill on a local farm. The wreckage had the body of a small pilot nearby, who was believed to have come from Mars. Strange papers were also reported to have been extracted from the wreckage as well. The humanoid was reportedly given a Christian burial in the town's cemetery. While some dismissed the incident as a hoax or an exaggerated newspaper tale, others consider it one of the earliest recorded crash stories in Ufology.
